Connaone is a new action game based on Korean cartoon of the same name. You are Connaone, a rowdy, tough youngster who has been jailed for countless misdemeanors and petty theft charges. Your goal, of course, is to break out from prison -- hurting countless enemy gangs and representatives of the authorities in the process. The gameplay is based on the straightforward attack-everyone-in-sight modus operandi. Rastersoft gives this 1996 Freeware DOS title a CD-i treatment early 2008. I hope Charles maintains the variety of levels: most styles of action games are used in the DOS version, from a one-on-one side-scrolling fighting scene, to a platformer-style level and even some first-person action thrown in. Fans of Beavis and Butthead will feel at home here -- Connaone looks and acts like the duo's long lost brother ;). Release info and the first download CD-i demo after the click!
Charles: "I started porting the demo to the CD-i yesterday, but only spend about 30 minutes on it. I have the background displaying, and am in the process of getting the sprite working. I haven't completed work on my CDi sprite compiler yet. The CD-i version of the next project demo is now available here. Like the Jaguar version, the demo is interactive. This version only has one character on screen. The second character would require the support of different height sprites, which isn't in the code currently, and would be made obsolete by the sprite compiler. This is a very early demo, and doesn't represent the final game. The game will probably take awhile to complete. The goal would be to release the game in Jan. 2008, but this is a very optimistic timeline. Right now I'm only planning on the fighting sequences, making it more of a Street Fighter 2 clone. I'm not sure about the rest yet." Watch a preview video here! It feels like a comeback after the cancelled Super Fighter project!
Charles: "It was something quick to show that the game could possibly work on the CD-i. Now, I need to sit down and work out the actual details of the engine and create the needed tools, including the sprite compiler." Charles mentioned that the new Connaone will be a Street Fighter clone rather than a straight port of the original. Perhaps adding more content is a possibility as I for one kinda like the idea of these mini-game sections. Perhaps with elements of platform and puzzle action? Charles: "I'm not sure at this point. Right now I'm focusing on the fighting stuff, as this seems to be the biggest part of the game."
Thanks to Charles Doty and The Underdogs. Screens are from the DOS version!
